COURT: Emancipation - LEE, Isaac; Lexington, Fayette Co., KY; December 1856 ------------------------------------------- Contributed by: Regina Barry rbarry@delanet.com Submitted: March 9, 2001 ------------------------------------------- Fayette County KY Court Orders Vol 15. FHL microfilm 1490759 Pg 71. April Court 1857 A deed of emancipation granted from John G. Childs to Isaac Lee. Said deed to be recorded; declaring Isaac Lee to be emancipated and set free. Said Isaac Lee and Caroline Lee executed a bond that Isaac Lee, upon emancipation, will not become a charge to the Commonwealth; with Richard Pindall as surety. Said Caroline Lee is present in court and consented to said emancipation. Isaac Lee is 47 years of age, 6 feet 1 inches tall. The full amount required to be paid by him (Isaac Lee) has been paid, and under the belief that he could not be freed under the old Constitution of Kentucky, on 8 March 1853 I executed a deed of sale for Isaac Lee to his wife Caroline Lee, a free woman; the intent of such a deed to cause such an agreement to be executed. Now it appears that under the new Constitution that he can be emancipated; I hereby declare Isaac Lee to be emancipated. J. G.
