OBIT: Craig, Anna Maria, 1888, Fayette Co submitted by Sherry Craig Wallace, wallace @pcpartner.net Obituary for Anna Maria Craig, born 5 March 1844, died 3 February 1888 in Lexington, Kentucky. Daughter of Elijah Wisdom Craig and Almira Grosvenor Craig. Transcribed from Lucia Jane Swift Craig's scrapbook in my possession - Sherry Craig Wallace Transcription as follows: At her residence on Barr street on Friday night last, very suddenly, Miss Anna Craig, youngest daughter of the Late Elijah Craig, aged about 40 years. Miss Craig was chiefly known for her benevolence and kindly acts, for she employed her large patrimony chiefly in works of this character. She was a zealous member of the Episcopal Church, and did what lay in her power to uphold the hands of her Rector and in all church work did her part liberally and freely. Although more or less an invalid all her life and a great sufferer at times, yet she bore her afflications with patience and fortitude and was vouchsafed an almost instantaneous and painless death. Her life was stainles, and full of good deeds and she may almost be said to have been translated to her reward, for she knew not the hour when death came and escaped the sufferings and terrors that so often accompany his coming. End of article. I remember stories from my grandmother, Carrie Craig, a Craig in-law, of this woman. She did not know her, but her afflictions were the result of being dropped as an infant in the fireplace by a nurse.
