Riley died Thursday at Lexington, Kentucky, after several strokes and a long illness. He was a native of Ghent, Kentucky, and past President of The Sons of the War of 1812, the Sons of the American Revolution, and The Kentucky Historical Society. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From THE MADISON COURIER, Madison, Indiana: Dr. Thomas L. “Buddy” Riley, 75, of Lexington, Ky., died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Ghent, Ky., the son of Carey Judson and Mary Elizabeth Sebree Riley. He was president of the University of Kentucky Hopkinsville Community College for 25 years until his retirement in 1989. His first teaching job was at the former Milton Township schools in Jefferson County. He spent his early childhood in Carroll County, Ky., and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with duty in the South Pacific during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Crim; four sons, Clark Riley of Baltimore, David Riley of Hopkinsville, Patrick Riley of Mountain View, Calif., and John Riley of Wheaton, Ill.; one daughter, Susannah Riley Denomme of Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Eva Jo Daly of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Carolyn Riley Kring of Madison; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. EDT Saturday at Milwards Funeral Home in Lexington. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ From THE KENTUCKY NEW ERA, Hopkinsville, Kentucky: Riley memorial service scheduled for Sunday at HCC A public memorial service for Dr. Thomas L. Riley, founding president of Hopkinsville Community College, will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hopkinsville Community College auditorium. Services in Lexington will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Milwards Funeral Home on Broadway with the Rev. Dr. Craig Loscalzo officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home. Riley, 75, died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at his home in Lexington following a long illness. According to college officials, the public is invited to celebrate his life and presidential legacy at the service here when speakers will be Dr. Brooks Major, William Turner and other college officials. He served as president of the college from Feb. 1, 1965 until June 30, 1989. Under his leadership, college enrollment grew from 220 students to 1,731.
