Among these are the Fuller, James, Lawhorn & Mayo families. Rev. William J. Keith (Preacher Billy) was the oldest child of James Keith & his wife Amy Morrison who came to Floyd county, Kentucky, from Patrick county, Virginia in the year 1840. Rev. William J. Keith married Ann Clark a daughter of Lucy Clark, a widow in Patrick county, Virginia, December 31, 1835. They were married by Rev. John Conner. William J. Keith owned property on Great Sycamore Creek, Patrick county (now Floyd county Virginia), which he bought from James Houchins, October 13, 1830, & which adjoined the land owned by his father James Keith & his uncles, Lawrence Morrison & Thomas Bolling. This property is located near the present Woolwine, Virginia. Many descendants of this Keith family live in Floyd & Pulaski counties, Virignia. James Keith, father of "Preacher Billy", was a son of Corneliius Keith Jr., He married Amy Morrison daughter of James Morrison, in Patrick county Virginia, on January 23, 1808. Their children were: 1. William J. Keith, b. January, 1809 m. Ann Clark, b. 1818, & who had issue: Jane, Thura Ann, English M., Elcannah R., Lucy J.,Columbus B., Josephine, William E., Harriett, Emmitt & Letitia Keith. 2. Sarah Keith, m. John Ramey; no record of descendants. 3. Mary Keith, m._____ Walker; no record of her descendants. 4. Elizabeth "Betsy" Keith, b. 1820 m. Hawkins Fuller Jackson, son of Isaac Jaackson & his wife, Lucy Fuller, m. Pike Co., Ly., May 19 1845, & who had issue: Joseph Jackson, Henry Jackson, James Jackson, Isaac E. Jackson, Nancy Jackson (my grandmother), Mary Jackson, Columbia Jackson, Surilda Jackson. 5. Jane keith, b. 1830, m. Jesse Ball & had issue William V. Ball, James T. ball, Martin V. Ball, Tivis Ball, Arminta E. Ball, Lena A. Ball, & Susan Ball. 6. Norman Thomas Keith, b. 1835; no record. 7. Louise E. keith, b. 1840, m. Acquilla Harman Jr., in Floyd county Ky., on February 10, 1858, & had issue: Daniel Harmon, Washington Harmon, Sallie Harmon & William Harmon. Amy Morrison wife of James Keith & mother of "Preacher Billy" was a daughter of James Morrison & Surilda, his wife. She had the following brothers & sisters: Lawrence Morrison, m. Elizabeth Clay, Jan. 1, 1807, James Morrison, m. Rebecca nevells, April 20 1820, Nathan Morrison, m. Mary Hancock, Aug. 27 1795, Thomas Morrison, m. Jean Runnolds, June 1 1809, William Morrison, m. Nancy Morrow, May 28, 1795, Sarah Morrison, m. Caleb Clay, Nov. 24, 1808, Elizabeth Morrison, m. James Bolling, Jan 30, 1801, & Jane Morrison, m. Elisha Harbour, May 28, 1795. It is interesting to note that Amy Morrrison Keith named most of her children after her brothers & sisters. It is thought that James Morrison, her father, was a son of soldier, of Fauquier county Virginia. James Keith & amy, his wife, & their family along with the families of Lawrence Morrison, Nathan Morrison & probably William Morrison came to Floyd county Kentucky, about 1840 from Patrick county, Virginia. They came here in a covered wagon & were three weeks making the trip. They came by way of the Cumberland Gap route, & after reaching Floyd county at first settled at what was known at that time as the "old Mayo settlement," probably because the wife of Nathan Morrison was a sister to the wives of Valentine Mayo & William James Mayo, all daughters of John Hancock of Patrick county, Virginia. James Keith & his wife are buried on Johns Creek in Pike county, Kentucky, at Gulnare, Kentucky, in a very old cemetery in the orchard of Mr. Garland Hurt. My aunt Lucy Collins, at Gulnare, remembers visiting the graves of James & amy when a mere child with her grandmother Betsy Jackson. Cornelius Keith Sr., came from Maryland to what is now Henry county, Virginia, before the Revolution. He later moved on south into North Carolina & there is a record of transfer of property from Cornelius Keith Sr., to Elliott Bohannon in Johnston county, later Dobbs county, now Lenoir county, North Carolina before 1756, in Deed Book A1. We do not know whom he married, but he probably married in Johnston county, N. C. his children were Duncan, Joshua, john & cornelius Jr. & some girls, names unknown. cornelius Keith Jr., along with his brothers moved up to Surry county North Carolina, & Cornelius Jr., owned a large boundary of land on the Little Fish River in that county. he also owned property in the present Patrick county, Virginia. Cornelius Jr., had seven children, five boys & two girls. The only names of his children known to this writer are Gabriel, John, Daniel, Ezekiel & Phoebe & of course James Keith. This family always spelled their name "K-E-E-T-H" until they moved to Kentucky. It is thought that our family of Keiths came from Scotland to the United States in the early 1720's. The Morrison family of Floyd & Pike counties, Kentucky, are also descendants of this same family, through Lawrence, Nathan & William Morrison. The are many descendants of this large family living in the Big Sandy Valley today. "Preacher Billy" as he was affectionately called, probably married more couples than any other preacher in the early period of our county. He was a Methodist minister & his picture for many years hung in the Methodist church her in Prestonsburg. his father James Keith also was a Methodist preacher. William J. Keith buried the unknown soldier whose grave is located on Bull Mountain a few miles from Prestonsburg. Additional Comments: Rev. William J. Keith m. Ann Clark, b. abt. 1818 in Patrick Co. VA., her parents were Jesse & Lucy Jane Peddigoe/Pedigo/Peregoy Clark, of Patrick Co. VA.. they were mar. 27 Dec. 1835 in Patrick Co. Va. with consent of Lucy Clark. Ann Clark's siblings were: John (Jack), m. Mariam Hale; Fleming, m. Margaret Houchens; George Nix, m. Mary DeHart; Edward, m. Sarah (Sally) Salmons; Lucy Jane, m. Austin Gunnell; Jesse Jr., m. Lydia C. Bartlet, many who at one time lived in Pike or Floyd Co's KY.. I find Ann's mother Lucy Clark, on the 1850 Floyd Co. KY Census, at age 76, living with son Edward & wife Sarah Salmons & family, so it is very likely that Lucy J. Clark died in Floyd Co. KY.. I find the Clark's in Mills Co. IA. in 1860. William Keith died Apr. 1877, Floyd Co. KY.. In 1880 I find Ann Keith living with Andrew J. Lewis & family, also Columbus Keith, Flem Clark, Edward Clark & families, all living in Republic Co. KS. The Clark family also lived to Pike & Floyd Co's. KY., as I have found many of Ann's. brothers & sisters there or they passed through the area. I have also found many Salmon(s) families in the area all from Patrick co. VA. In 1880 I find the Keiths, Lewis & Clark Families in Republic Co. KS..
