GAINES 4459, Franklin Co. Surname: Gaines, Poinedexter, Spicer Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. JAMES B. GAINES was born in Henry County, Ky., February 16, 1841, and is the eldest son of J. A. and Mary J. (Gaines) Gaines. J. A. was born in Woodford County, and is a son of James A., who was a native of Virginia. Mrs. Mary J. Gaines was born in Kentucky, and is a daughter of Barnette and Patsey (Poindexter) Gaines. James B. Gaines lived in Henry until 1846, then moved to Franklin County with his parents, and has lived in said county ever since. He owns 475 acres of land, and has always been engaged in farming and stock raising, and also ran a dairy for four years. December 25, 1862, he married Lucy A. Spicer, of Franklin County, daughter of William and Susan J. (Gaines) Spicer. Eight children have been born to this union, seven of whom are living: W. A., Jr., who is now deputy sheriff, born December 1, 1863; Dora, March 2, 1886; Genevieve, December 2, 1867; Llewellyn, October 19, 1870; Bowman, October 9, 1873; Ira, October 4, 1875, and Elliott, March 31, 1879. Mr. Gaines is one of the leading farmers, and is a brother to the present sheriff of Franklin County. ===============================================================================
