HALY 3398, Franklin Co. Surname: Haly, Long, Pucell, Welch, Buckley Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. DENIS L. HALY was born in County Cork, Ireland, July 29, 1832, and is a son of William and Mary (Long) Haly. He came to the United States in 1852, landed at New York City and remained one year, working at his trade, brick and stone mason. He came to Frankfort, Ky., in 1853, and at once commenced building and contracting. He was superintendent for John Haly, a cousin, and among the noted buildings erected the Capital Hotel, the mammoth stone hotel of the South; also the new wing of the State House in Frankfort; the Clay Monument in Lexington; courthouse at Vevay, Ind., and the courthouse at Lawrenceburg, Ky. In 1866 he opened a hardware store in Frankfort, and also has a large saloon and restaurant. October 26, 1855, he married Jane Pucell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, daughter of Ned and Ellen (Welch) Pucell. Twelve children blessed this union, nine of whom are living: Edward J., married Maggie Buckley, is in his father's hardware store; Ella, Hannah, Mattie, Mary, William P., Geniveve, Maggie and Bernadette. Mr. and Mrs. Haly and all the children are members of the Catholic Church.
