J. Hays Blair - was born September 22, 1833 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He is a son of Ralph A. and Asenath (McFadden) Blair. The father was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and died August 26, 1860, aged sixty-seven. The mother was born in Davidson County, Tenn., she died August 1860, aged sixty-four. Our subject was reared on his father's farm, where he remained until 1862, when he enlisted in Company A, Seventh Kentucky Infantry, Confederate States Army, and served until the end of the war, after which he returned to the farm, remaining there two years; in 1867 he came to Hickman County, where he now owns 800 acres of land; he also owns a comfortable residence in Clinton, where he resides, with about six acres of land, also about twelve acres of land near the depot, and other property in the town. He has held the office of magistrate about eight years. Mr. Blair was married November 21, 1867, to Sarah A. Latta, of this county; they have had four children, three living. He is a life-long and devoted member of the United Baptist Church and Mrs. Blair is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
