JESSE M. Moss, Graves County, was born in Smith County, Tenn., January 3, 1846, and was taken by his parents to Butler Co., Kentucky, in infancy, where he grew to manhood, and in 11862 entered Company E, Third Kentucky Cavalry, with which he remained until the close of the late war. He is the son of Hugh Moss, a native of Smith County, Tenn., who was born in 1807, and is still living. Hugh's wife, Delilah B., daughter of Nelson and Betsey (West) Walker, of Halifax County, Va., was born in 1812, and is still living. Their offspring are Martha J. (Pigg), John K., George W., Mary M. (Pirtle), subject, Amanda F.(French) and Caroline (Byrns). On account of the late war, subject could only secure a business education, but he is a constant reader of books and current literature. He was married December 21m 1876, to Miss Georgia A., daughter of George C. and Lucinda (Austin) Brown, of Graves County, Ky. and to them have been born Albert C. K. and Edward L. Subject commenced merchandising in 1879, at which he has been successful. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Methodist and a Democrat.
