W. P. Nolen - Fulton County, was born March 14, 1844 in Paducah, Kentucky and is a son of William and Huldah A. (Becker) Nolen. The father was born in Pennsylvania of German Descent. The mother was born in Livingston Co., Kentucky and was of French descent. W. P. is the fourth of eight children, four boys and four girls. He received his education in Paducah. In 1863 he began life as a clerk in his father's hardware store in Paducah, where he remained until 1867. In 1877 he removed to Fulton, Ky., where he engaged in the hardware business. In the spring of 1881 he entered the employment of the Southern Express Company at Fulton, and is still engaged by them. In October 1865, he was married to Miss Julia E. Cook of Paducah, and a daughter of Marcus and Amelia Cook. The father was a native of Virginia and a lumberman by occupation. He was one of the first men to put up a planning-mill at Paducah. This marriage has resulted in the following children: Marcus C., Bettie C., Julia and W. P. jr. Mr. And Mrs. Nolen are members of the Episcopal Church. He is also a member of the Masonic fraternity.
