At a meeting of the church called together this day for the purpose of collecting a subscription for the U.T.O. Home of Ky. and for electing a board of trustees for the church, made vacant by the deaths of Bro. Hardin Maddox and Bro. J. H. Thomas and for the ratification by the Church of the selection of A. P. Johnson by the official board (Elders and Deacons), the following action was taken. Viz. Henry Maddox, W. M. Bacon, J. W. Ballow and J. C. Hendrix were chosen trustees. The selection by the official board of A. P. Johnson as pastor for this year was ratified by the church. The collection for the U.T.O.Home in the hands of those present was paid in and notification made to have had in hands of those absent to be brought in by next Sunday. Attest: M. A. Was chosen to serve as regular preacher and also to hold protracted meeting for the year 1900. Attest: M. A. McDaniel, church clerk *********************** Mt. Herman - Sept. 17, 1899 According to previous call, the congregation assembled today. The selection of Bro. Hardeman by the official board was ratified. No objections to him as a preacher or to his character as a man was made. Attest: M. A. McDaniel, C.C. *********************** Mt. Herman - Oct.14, 1899 At a meeting of the official board today. Bros. Bacon and Purcell reported that their re----strances (?) to Sister Mollie Shuck about her action in the church on April 16, 1899 concerning objections to Bro. Hardeman, is in violation of our arbitration agreement, also about certain letters and other matters was unheeded. Whereas a number of the congregation had deserted the regular Sunday School and church meetings and had assembled on the 1st and organized a separate Sunday School and met on separate time from the regular school. It was unanimously resolved that Sister Mollie Shuck be withdrawn from at once, and all the other parties be admonished and warned, that if they persisted in meeting in said Sunday School, they are to be withdrawn from, without further administration, which is in accordance with our arbitration agreement. Attest: M. A. McDaniel C.C. P.S. The clerk was instructed to write Bro. J. H. Saunders of the Hickman Congregation To meet with this board on Sat. Oct. 21st, 1899. *********************** Mt. Herman - Oct. 21st, 1899 Pursuant to adjournment, the official board met today. Two courteous invitations having been sent to Bro. J. H. Saunders the past week, to meet with us today and he having refused to meet us, action was deferred in his case until our next meeting. The disorderly faction met again last Lords day in separate Sunday school, in Disobedience to the administration given them on last Sunday meeting. Mr. Brasfield one of the disorderly faction, having told Bro. Bacon that it was the intention of the whole faction not to meet at the church any longer than tomorrow, but they expected to withdraw in a body and in all kindness. Therefore it was unanimously resolved by all the board, that on account of family And neighborly relations existing between us, we would defer action in publicly withdrawing from said disorderly faction and give them the opportunity to withdraw in quietness, peace and kindness Attest: M. Herman - Nov. 18, 1899 At a meeting of the official board and some of the married brothers, it being known that the following persons had continued to meet in separate Sunday School and in defiance of the administration of the board, given a month ago, it was agreed that Mrs. Em Thomas, Miss Emily Thomas, Johnny Thomas, Mary Prather, Maggie Wilson, W. R. Shields, Noff Brasfield, Effie Brasfield, Edwin Mosely, Mrs. Emma Saunders, Otto Saunders, Hugh Saunders, Fay Saunders, Henry Maddox, Bess Maddox, Lide Maddox and Lem Bacon, be publicly withdrawn from on-tomorrow, to forbidden to use the house any longer, for separate Sunday School or church meetings.
