1953 in Fulton from Fulton Daily Leader by Eunice Mitchell April Early in April thousands lined the streets to view the clean-up parade sponsored by the Twin City Improvement Committee, one of the most colorful parades in the city's history. Mrs. Vera Parrish had her house painted by volunteer workers as a conclusion to the parade. Poster and essay contests were also held in connection with the clean-up campaign. Nelson Tripp received the Silver Beaver award in recogintion of his Cub Scout work. Three automobile accidents in as many days on the Union City-Fulton highway resulted in five dead, 10 hurt. Mrs. Jim Bell of near Fulton was included in the fatalities. Still wearing his striped uniform, an 18 year-old Fort Pillow escaped prisoner was captured in a garage back of Thurmond Evans residence.
