Turning Back the Clock - Hickman Courier 10 August 1900 Mrs. Martha Thompson, 84, grandmother of Mrs. T. T. Swayne, died Wednesday. She had lived in this community all her life and that long life was ever spotless and pure. Price's Showboat sank on the Ohio River near Cairo last week. Forty people were on the boat, and all escaped drowning. Miss Mabel Claywell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Claywell, died of Typhoid fever Sunday night and was buried in the City Cemetery. She was a beautiful young girl between 16 and 17. God bless her bereaved parents and relatives. Sad and painful news was received in Hickman yesterday morning That R. C. Alexander, a merchant of Ft. Worth, Texas, was found dead in the Planter's Hotel, St. Louis, on Wednesday evening, cause unknown. The deceased was born and raised in Fulton County and for many years was a merchant in Hickman. Dr. Frank Usher, son of Dr. F. M. Usher of Fulton, has been ordered from Cuba to China. He served his country in the Spanish War and ranks high as a surgeon.
