1953 in Fulton from Fulton Daily Leader by Eunice Mitchell August City voters elected William T. Browning mayor and a new council as well as county officers, after a "hot" campaign. Pfc. George McGowain, Fulton's only prisoner of war in Korea was released by the Communists and returned home. The new coach for Fulton High succeding Sam Short resigned before the first practice and Uel Killebrew and Henry Cowan were named to share the coaching duties. The Cumberland Presbyterian Church dedicated its new building, now debt free. The Mizpah Shriners band of Madisonville paraded in Fulton and several hundred shriners had a picnic at the Country Club. J. O. Lewis returned to Fulton as manager of the radio station WFUL. The Fulton Lookouts became the first Kitty League team in its history to win the pennant three years in a row.
