1953 in Fulton from Fulton Daily Leader by Eunice Mitchell December Milton Counce was re-elected South Fulton mayor. A new council was elected. Fulton and South Fulton bands received colorful new uniforms. W. D. McClure died after being crushed in an accident at the Latta stock yards. Mrs. Effie Miller Robertson, former Fulton resident, Was killed in a car wreck near Wingo. Hubert Johnson, former Fultonian, was sentenced to life Imprisonment for robbery of the Farmington Bank. Sebra Evans, trainmaster was transferred to Memphis and was succeeded by J. P. Moran. The by-pass of highways 51 and 45 was opened to traffic with signs directing traffic causing some dissention among Fulton businessmen. A new corporation was formed to develop a recreational program. Dr. Glenn Bushart was named president. Charles Edmon Boaz was found dead at the Earle Hotel, his death being termed murder by local police. The holidays were marred by two traffic mishaps. Eight local people were injured in a wreck December 23rd, and on Christmas Eve three were killed and two seriously injured in another accident. Two of the dead were young sons of Arlie Batts.
