Turning Back the Clock – Hickman Courier 2 March 1900 A charming social event of the week was that enjoyed by a number of young people who gathered at the home of Mr.and Mrs. Henry Cowgill, Thursday evening, to share the pleasures of Miss Alice Cowgill’s birthday celebration, her cousin Miss Mary Atwood, being also an honoree. Refreshments were served in courses, dainty and delightful to each guest represented. Miss Mercer won the prize, a book and Robert Helm the boobie prize, a box of candy. The guests and the represented cakes included, Mr. Boogher, wedding cake; Miss Nannie Rogers, birthday Cake; Will Helm, queen cake; Miss Mercer, heavy cake; Rob Helm, tea cake; Miss Jessie Isler, ribbon cake; Len Shaw, sponge cake; Miss Nellie Helm, corn cake; John Dillon, layer cake; Charles Baltzer, ribbon cake; Miss Leone Fuqua, molasses cake; Nick Holcombs, rainbow cake; Miss Virginia Luten, Money cake; Finley Randle, silver cake; and Kenneth Anderson, strawberry short cake.
