Fulton Daily Leader, Wednesday Afternoon, 28 March 1962 Mrs. J. S. Pope, Former Resident, Dies In Florida Mrs. Bertie Pope, wife of Joe S. Pope, and former Fulton resident, died at the home of her son, Cecil Whelen at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Jacksonville, Florida, after an extended illness. She was 87. She was born in Graves County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late William and Blanche Clanton Boone. She had lived in Fulton most of her life. She was a member of the Belmont Methodist Church in Nashville. Survivors include her husband, Joe Pope; a son Cecil Whelen; three brothers, Earl Boone of Fulton, Ernest and Cecil Boone of Nashville and two granddaughters. The body will arrive in Fulton at 11 a.m. Thursday and funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Hornbeak Funeral Home. Rev. Ferris E. Moore, pastor of the Belmont Methodist Church, Nashville, assisted by Rev. W. T. Barnes pastor of the First Methodist Church will officiate.
