Monday, August 8, 1988 - Fulton Daily Leader ************************************** "Collision is fatal to guardsman" A Hickman Coast Guardsman was killed late Saturday night when the car he was riding in struck a ditch and overturned at the intersection of KY125 and KY166, about four miles east of Hickman. Craig Allen Lewis, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene by Fulton County Coroner Joe Cole shortly before midnight Saturday. Members of the Hickman Fulton County Rescue Squad pulled him from underneath the wreckage, Cole said. His body was sent to Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah for an autopsy. Lewis' brother, Michael Lewis of Cornersville, Tenn., who was driving, was thrown from the car. He was transported by Hickman Ambulance Service to Parkway Regional Hospital and later taken to Lourdes Hospital, Paducah, where he is listed in stable condition with a broken arm and leg, a hospital spokesman said today. The spokesman said he is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow. Cole said the two men were headed toward Hickman on KY125 when Lewis apparently lost control of the vehicle. It struck a ditch and overturned on a gravel portion of the intersection. Fulton County Sheriff's Department investigated the accident. A memorial service for Lewis will be 2 P.M. Wednesday at Chaney Funeral Home in Hickman. Friends may call after 10 A.M. Wednesday. Survivors include his brother and father, James W. Lewis, also of Cornersville, Tenn. His mother Constance Elizabeth Lewis, preceded him in death. He was born in Alabama on Oct. 23, 1968.
