CHARLES EDWARD SIMMONS (5 NOVEMBER 1939-17 MAY 1984) Transcribed from the Hickman Courier May 1984 Charles Simmons Charles Edward Simmons, 44 of 1410 Myron Cory Drive, died Thursday night, May 17, 1984, in an automobile accident near Brunswick, Ga. A dredge engineer, Mr. Simmons was employed by the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. of Oakbrook, Ill. He was on a job assignment at the time of his death. He was born in Washington County, Miss., Nov. 5, 1939. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Mrs. Phyllis Choate Simmons; two sons, Chip Simmons and Dan Simmons, both of Hickman; two brothers, J.W. Simmons, Jr., of Boyd, Texas, and Joe Simmons of Hollandale, Miss., and six sisters, Mrs. Louise Cox of Huntsville, Ala., Mrs. G.L. White of Meridian, Miss., and Mrs. C.H. Parmenter, Mrs. Sylvia Maguire, Mrs. Hazel Ellie and Mrs. Dina Tucker of Greenville, Miss. He was preceded in death by his father J.W. Simmons, Sr., and mother, Mrs. Louise Wiggley Simmons, and another brother. Funeral services were held Monday May 21, 1984, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Carl Glahn officiating. Burial followed in the Hickman City Cemetery. Chaney Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Ronald Strong, Gerald Harris, Richard Wilkerson, R.A. Edwards, Joe Simmons, James Simmons, Charles Parmenter, R.L. Enterkin, Wilbur Bradford and Larry Tilman.
