From the Standard Democrat, Sikeston, MO 21 March 2003 HICKMAN, Ky. - Hugh Leonard Lattus, 78, died March 20, 2003, at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton, following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 16, 1924, in Fulton County, son of the late Jacob Andrew and Sarah Hogg Lattus, he was a farmer in Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri and owned and operated Lattus and Son Farms. A community leader, he was former owner and operator of the Hickman Ferry for 30 years. Lattus was appointed to the Kentucky Agricultural Board under former Gov. Julian Carroll and served on the Hickman Riverport Authority Board. A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. His wife, Doris Burcham Lattus. Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Maurice Risner of Goshen; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald Hugh and Deborah Hutchins Lattus of Hickman; one sister, Margaret Sue Gibson of Paducah; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Joseph Lattus, J.C. Lattus, John Jacob Lattus, Guy Lattus, Thomas Lattus and Charles Lattus; and one sister, Elizabeth Lattus Roof. Visitation is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will continue from 9 a.m. Saturday until service time at 10:30 a.m. The Revs. Mike Williams, Joe Lattus and Frank Roof will officiate.
