The Fulton News - June 24, 1965 *************************** Deaths ****** Walter Smith Atkins died unexpectedly at his home on Third Street in Fulton on June 16. He was 71 years of age and was president of the Fulton Bank and prominent Businessman. He was former Mayor of Fulton, president of Jones Auto Parts, Founder and co-owner of Atkins Insurance, and the Fulton Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He played a very active role in the planning of the Fulton City Park. He was an active member of the First Methodist Church and former chairman of the official board. He was a charter member of the Lions Club and was a member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. Funeral services were held Friday June 18, in the First Methodist Church, with Rev. W. T. Barnes officiating. Burial, in charge of Whitnel Funeral Home, was in Fairview Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Fields Atkins, one son, Jerry F. Atkins, two daughters, Mrs. Charles Reams and Mrs. Don H. Sensing, all of Fulton; one brother W. H. Atkins of Tempe, Arizona; five grandchildren, Peggie Reams and Walter, Donna, John and Catherine Sensing.
