We find in the very beginning that Fulton County was organized at the Tavern House of Greenberry Watson on Tuesday the 1st of April 1845. The first magistrates were Robert Brown, James P. Tyler, Jesse Edmondston, Ralph McFadden, Shedrick Boaz, Asa W. Clark, Hugh B. French, and Thomas U. Smith; and Thomas James a justice of the peace from Hickman County administered the oath to the Magistrates. Each of these Magistrates Is long since dead. The sheriff was Jacob White, not without opposition, however. The said White on the day above mentioned, appeared in court and presented his commission from the Governor of Kentucky appointing him sheriff for two years and asked to be qualified, but Lewis Scearce abojected and filed exceptions, but the court decided in favor of White and he qualified with M. Wale, Wm. Chambers, Josiah Parker and Joshua Smith as his securities. The grounds of Scearce's objection are stated to be that the said White had acted as Commissioner of Tax for the year of 1845 and it was claimed this disqualified him. The Court made arrangements for holding further Courts in the southeast corner of the large building owned by the Planter's Bank of Tennessee. Mr. L.D.Stephens was elected Court Clerk by the Magistrates; and E.J. Bullock, County Atty., A.S.Tyler, Surveyor; and Robert Powell, Coroner; and Jno.Betts as jailer. R.C.Prather was the first road overseer appointed in the county. The first constables were Wm.A.Downing, Geo.W.Puckett and Thomas Gore." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
