Dunn was born July 23, 1853, in Garrard Co., Ky.; in 1855 removed with his parents to Ray Co., Mo., and in 1864 returned to Garrard Co., where he has since resided. His father, William Dunn, a native of Garrard Co., was born in 1827, is a farmer, a Democrat, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. He is the son of Joshua Dunn, also a native of Garrard County, born June 8, 1798; is a farmer, and has represented his county in the Legislature; was an old-line Whig and a Union man, and is still living. He is the son of Augustine Dunn, a native of Maryland, whose brothers were William, Benjamin and John. He married Eleanor Aldridge, and their offspring were John, William, Joshua, James and Harriet (Byars). Joshua Dunn married Elizabeth Swope, and from their union sprang Margaret (Smith), Benjamin, Augustine, William, Jessie, Charles, Joshua, Wilson, Sarah (Gaines), Bettie (Gaines) and Eliza A. (Cook). William Dunn married Belle, daughter of William Burnside, of Garrard Co., and to them were born Joseph B., Elizabeth, Joshua, Orpha (deceased), Cora A., Mattie B. (deceased) and Minnie C. Joseph B. Dunn engaged in teaching for some time. In politics he is a Democrat and a prohibitionist. During the present year (1886) he and his brother Joshua engaged in general merchandise and drug business at Bryantsville, Ky., and are meeting with encouraging success. Joshua Dunn was born May 18, 1857, in Ray Co., Mo., was reared to manhood in Garrard County, Ky., clerked three years in a store, was two years in partnership with E. S. Ford, in Bryantsville, Ky., and is now in business with his brother, Joseph B. He taught school one term at Buena Vista, studied law two years at Lancaster, with Burdete & Hopper, and was admitted to the bar in 1879. He is a member of the Christian Church, and in politics is a Democrat and a prohibitionist.
