Smith carthage42@hotmail.com ==================================================================== DEED: CHARLES AND PEGGY ISON TO FRANCIS STEPHENS, 1802 Garrard County, Ky., Deed Book A, p. 387 Grantor: Charles Ison and Peggy Ison his wife Grantee: Francis Stephens Date: 16 August 1802 This Indenture Made this 16th day of August 1802 Between Charles Ison and Peggy Ison his wife of the County of Garrard and state of Kentucky of the one part and Francis Stephens of the County of Pulaski and state of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth that the said Charles Ison and peggy his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Sixty pounds Current Money of Virginia to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby Acknowledge hath Given granted bargained and sold unto the said Francis Stephens his heirs & assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and Being in the County of Amhurst and State of Virginiae Containing one Hundred and twenty two acres be the same more or less & Bounded as followeth (Viz) Beginning at a chesnut corner to Walter Power and running thence with this line North 71 D. W 34 po. to a Hickory thence new line south 59 D W 64 po. to a chesnut Oak thence south thirty nine D.W. 103 po. to a chesnut thence 155 D E 29 po to a white Oak thence S 71 D. E 147 po to a white chesnut in Alexander Baggses line and with it north North 6 D E 140 po. to pointers in Walter powers line, and with the north 71 D. West. 28 po. to pointers at a branch thence north 3 D. W 20 pp to the first station with Its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or piece of land unto Francis Stevens and his heirs and assigns forever and the said Charles Ison and Peggy his wife doth for themselves firmly by These presents and their heirs to warrant and defend the afd. Francis Stevens and his heirs forever against all and Every Person or persons whatever in Witness whereof the said Charles Ison and Peggy have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above Written. Note: a deed covering the transfer of the same property was drawn up 26 Oct 1791 between Charles Ison of Mercer Co., Ky. [of which Garrard was then a part], and Frances Stephens of Amherst Co., Va. Peggy Ison also signed the first deed, which was witnessed by Henry Ballinger, John New and Samuel Renshaw. Although Henry Ballinger proved it by oath in the Amherst Co. Court 18 June 1792, the deed was "ordered to lie for further proof." [Amherst County, Va., Deed Book G, p. 113])
