Subject: [KYF] OBIT: Eugene J. Grubbs, 2002, Casey & Garrard Co. ------------------------------------------------------------ From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 5 July 2002 LANCASTER -- Eugene J. Grubbs, 78, of Lancaster, former chairman of the Garrard County Board of Education, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He served on the Garrard Board of Education for 21 years. He also was a retired farmer and a life member and elder of Pleasant Grove Christian Church. He was a disabled Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations. Born Feb. 6, 1924, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Eli and Beatrice Smiley Grubbs. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Poynter Grubbs; five sons, Larry Grubbs of Henryville, and Keith Grubbs, David Grubbs, Gerald Grubbs and Randy Grubbs, all of Lancaster; a daughter, Ruth Ann Henderson of Nicholasville; two sisters, Helen Moberly of Russellville and Nora Thompson of Rialto, Calif.; three brothers, Earl S. Grubbs and Herbert Grubbs, both of Lancaster, and Sam Grubbs of Mason, Ohio; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip E. Grubbs. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Revs. Lewis Smith and John Presko. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Drew, Mike Berry, Lloyd Moberly, Herbert Sharp, Davey Logan Jr., Don Poynter, Lloyd Dailey and William Moberly. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren.
