Johnson LANCASTER - Austin Blake Johnson, 14-month-old son of Kristin Gullett and Derek Johnson, died Wednesday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Austin Blake was born Oct. 30, 1997, at UK Medical Center, with a rare heart defect and survived a surgery on Nov. 3, just days after his birth. The six-hour operation was done to rebuild the aorta and close a hole between the heart's two lower pumping chambers. After the surgery, doctors said Austin Blake's prognosis was good and that he probably would require two more operations over the next several years. The baby's condition was so rare that it had never been seen at UK, according to a doctor who assisted with the surgery. Other survivors include his paternal grandparents, Johnny and Del-leda Johnson of Lancaster; maternal grandparents, Bobby and Billie Middleton of Lancaster, and Robert and Joyce Hawley Gullett of Lexington; great-grandparents, JoAnn Miracle of Stanford, and Harry and Juanita Conley Gullett, and Emit and Marlene Long, all of Lancaster; and great-great-grandfather Henry Edgington of Lancaster. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by the Rev. Ralph Sallee. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday.
