Will Book C, pages 167-69 Will signed 10 Dec 1802 Probate date not known In the name of God amen. I John Brown of Garrard County and State of Kentuck (sic) being in my common health of Body and Soundings (sic) of mind and memory. But calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, I make and ordain this be my last will and testament and principally and first of all I give my soul into the hands of all mighty God who gave it nothing but at the general resurrection I shall receive the Same again by the mighty Power of God. My body I recommend to the earth to be Buried in a Decent and Chistian (sic) like manner at the Discretion of my Executors: And as touching any worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life. I give demise and dispose of it in manner and form following (viz). I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Brown after the payment of all my just debts: all and seqular the whole of my real and personal estate for her to poses (sic) and enjoy during her natural life, but at her death it is my will that my son David Brown shall have the land whereon I now live supposed to contain seventy-five acres. He the said David is also to have my negro man named Moses. ITEM I give and bequeath to my two sons William and John Brown two shillings each to be levied and raised out of my Estate. ITEM I give and bequeath to my Daughter Jean (?) Riggs ten shillings to be levied and raised out of my estate. ITEM I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Pheris my negro woman named Chiney with her increase. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Margret (sic) Marett my negro woman named Sall with her increase. ITEM I give and (bequeath) to my Daughter Elizabeth Jennings a negro Child that now seeks her Mother Chiney and is the only Child she has living. It is a female Child. ITEM I give and bequeath to my sons (towit) Joseph, Robert and Charles all the remainder of movable estate that may be left at the Death of my wife Margret (sic) Brown to be equally divided among them three and I do Ordain, Constitute, and appoint my trusty friends Edmond Ferrill and William Wallace to be executors of this my last will and testament and I do hereby revoke and disallow and make void any other will or wills heretofore by me made declaring this and this ony be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this tenth Day of December 1802.
