Smith carthage42@hotmail.com WILL: ZACHARIAH COMPTON, 1804 Garrard Co., Ky., Will Book A, pp. 179-180 Written 25 June 1804 Probated November Court 1804 I, Zachariah Compton of Garrard County and State of Kentucky, Being at this time in present Sense and Sound Memory and considering the Mortaity of the Body do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament. Item. I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Catharine my whole Estate during her natural Life if she continue a Widow, but if marry I give her Negroes James Dinah and Lydd one third of my stock of cattle half my plantation whereon I now live one third of the rent of my Stills and the Choyce of my Horses during her Life and at her Death all but the Land. My will and desire is (Vz.) if she should marry what is left her in that share should be equally divided among the whole of my children. Item. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Betsy Ison one Negro Girl named Rachel and a Negro Boy by the name of Willis to her and her Heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Heli Compton a Negro boy by the name of Cager and Negro Girl by the name of Sally to him & his Heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath unto my son Burrus Compton a Negro lad by the name of Sie and a Negro Girl by the name of Linna and half of the Land and Plantation whereon I now live at the Death of my wife the whole of the said Land and Plantation, and as for the rest of my Estate my Will and desire is (Viz) My claim to Land on Chaplain in Washington County my Mills Stock of all kinds of Household and Kitchen furniture Utensils should be divided as followeth, to wit, That is I give my son Heli one thousand Acres of my said Land on Chaplain and the ballance of said Land to my Daughter Sally Peter and Betsy Ison and all my said Estate that is not herein given My Will is should be equally Divided among the whole of my Children. And I do hereby appoint William Peter and my Son Burrus Compton Executors to Execute this my last Will and Testament. As witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal this 25th of June 1804.
