I've also been told this was part of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery outside of Lowes since they are only about a mile apart. Smith, Eli b. April 5, 1805 d. May 20, 1880 75y's 1m 15d's Sarah T. wife of Eli Smith b. July 12, 1817 d. April 16, 1883 Lamm, Mary died Feb. 12, 1848 aged 73 years. There was one other stone there but it was the top part of a Three piece stone, and had only "Erected by B??N Heath" There are several more graves there, but as of yet i've only found the above stones. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *addendum 5/25/03 I would like to make a correction/clarification to two cemetery names in Graves County, Cannon Ridge and Mt. Carmel that are on the KenGenWeb site. I have been in contact with Don and Lisa Howell so they are aware of this also. I have researched this area of Graves County extensively (recently completing a book on the early development of the northwest part of the county). I am a descendant of one of the persons buried in what you have labeled as Cannon Ridge, Mary Lamm d. 1848 (1775-1848). With Don Howell's help I have been able to have that broken stone repaired last year. Don Howell used the names for these cemeteries as found in Graves County Genealogical Society Cemetery publications, Vol 1. In Vol III they have corrected Cannon Ridge to 'Cannon Ridge/Mt. Carmel' The correct name is "Mt. Carmel" as the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church was located in this quarter section of Section 32 in the "Atlas of Graves County 1880" (see Atlas) This church ca 1832-1884 and cemetery were located on the land of James G. Lamm (1778-1862) and is the husband of the Mary Lamm whose marker has survived. The church's location and the cemetery stone fragments are separated by a RR built in 1927 probably right through the middle of the cemetery. The cemetery identified in Vol I and III as Mt. Carmel, which name Don Howell used, is to the north of the cemetery mentioned above and is located on land granted to Samuel Mahan (first cousin to James G. Lamm above) in 1829. It is not the site of Mt. Carmel. (see 1880 Atlas) This name was given by Lawrence Morrill to Beverly Gourley (submitter to the GCG Vol I and III) and is in error. Three of the stones in this cemetery are for the Mahan Family and there are more names in the GCG books than what Don Howell reported. Time takes its toll on hiding stones in cemeteries which receive no care. If you need any additional documention please let me know. Grace Lamm Nezworski
