Neighbors, John Patterson, William Brunk and Henry Litsey the court of Grayson Co. in the State of Kentucky now sitting John Fulkerson a resident of Grayson County and State of Kentucky aged Seventy seven Years who first duly sworn according to the law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June 7th 1832, That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers Captain Headly and Col.Ephram Martin Militia officers of the State of New Jersey that he was first drafted at Sussex County in the State of New Jersey for one month, he entered the service in the year 1776 and in the Militia for New Jersey and that he served about four years altogether being sometimes drafted and sometimes turned out Volunteer and served under the Following Officers Gen. Starling, Gen.Miner, Col. Martin, Col Howard, Col. Freelinghouse, Col. Hunt, Capt. Hedley-Capt. Hill, Captain Johnston, Capt. Beckworth, Capt. Guntrymun, Capt. Logan, Capt, Cooper, Capt Stull, Capt. Dunlap, Lieut. Dye, Lieut.Suffin That he served six months under Capt. Dunlap that he stationed part of his time in Elizabethtown New Jersey part of the time in Amboy in New Jersey that he marched into Pemptin? New Jersey, Peramus New Jersey that he was in the battle of Monmouth and in a number of skirmishes. That he assisted in during the British from Elizabetown New Jersey and took five guns from the enemy and took them into camp and delivered them to the officiers. He cannot recollect the particular time when he entered the service nor when he quit the service all he knows is that he served about 4 years during the war. That He resided in Sussex and in Somerset countys State of New Jersey-that he saw Gen. Lee, Gen. Ferman, Col, Nelson Gen. Washington all in the army. That he has no discharge or documentary evidence that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service except the deposition of John Bruner Questions profounded to the applicant by the court. 1st I was born in Sommerset County in the State of New Jersey on the 28th day of November 1754 2nd question Have you any record of your age and where id it. answer My age is in my Fathers Bible in Nelson County in the State of Kentucky 3rd question where were you living when called into service, where have you lived since the Revolutionary War and where do you live now. answer When called into service I lived in Sussex County New Jersey. I have lived since the Revolutionary War in the State of Kentucky and now live in Grayson County Kentucky 4th question How were you called into service were you drafted, did you Volunteer or were you a substitute and if a substitute for Whom Answer I was drafted several times and Volunteered for four months, under Capt. Dunlap, and Volunteered 6 months under Capt. Cooper in the Whole served about four years. 5th question State the names of some of the Regular officers who were with the troops where you served. such continental and militia regiments as you can recollect and the general circumstance of your service Answer Gen. Lee, Gen. Ferman, General Washington, Col Nelson were regular officers I believe and the militia officers were Starlingthines, Col Hunt, Captains Headley, Hill, Johnston, Beckworth. Guntryman,Logan, Cooper, Stull, Dunlap 6th question did you ever receive a discharge from the service and if so by whom was it given and what has become of it. Answer I never received a regular discharge 7th question State the names of persons to whom you are know in your present neighborhood and who can testify as to your character for ___city and then belief of your services as a soldier of the revolution Answer James Burtle,Uriah Purtle, John Bruner, Peter Bruner, Reed McGrew, John P. Beatty,Owen Millis, William Beatty, Jacob Artman, William Ewing He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or amnity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension Roll of the agency of any State. Stueville clergyman residing in Grayson County and Charles Wortham? residing in the same hereby certify that we are well acquainted with John Fulkerson who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration that we beleive him to be seventy seven years of age and that he is reported and beleived in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the revolution and that we concur in the opinion sworn and subscribed the day and year aforesaid.
