On this 27th day of August 1832 personnally appeared in open court before George W. Neighbors, John Patterson, William Bunk and Henry Litsey the court at Grayson county in the State of Kentucky now sitting John Fulkerson a resident of Grayson County Kentucky aged seventy seven Years who being first duly sworn according to law doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress, passed Jun 7th 1832. That He entered the service of the United States under the following Captian Headly and Col Ephraim Martin militia officers of the State of New Jersey that he was first drafted Sussex County in the state of New Jersey and that he served about four years altogether. Being sometimes drafted and some times turned out Volunteer and servied under the following officers Gen. Starling, Gen. Miner, Col. Martin, Col. JHoward, Col. Freelinghouse, Col. Hunt, Cat. Hedley, Cap. Hill, Cap. Johnston, Capt. Beckworth, Capt. Guntrymun, Capt. Logan Capt. Cooper Capt. Capt. Stull, Caapt Dunlap Luiet. Dye, Luiet suffin that he served six months under Capt. Cooper & four months under Capt. Dunlap that her was stationed part of the time in Elizabethtown New Jersey part of his time in Amboy in New Jersey. Peramus New Jersey that he marched into Pennsylviania and was in the battle of Momouth and in a number of skirmishes that he assisted in driving the British from Elizabethtown New Jersey and took 33 prisoners and that he himself took them into camp and delivered them up to the officiers. He cannot recollect the particuliar Time when he entered the service, all he knows is that he served about 4 years during the War. that he resided in Sussex County New Jersey-that he saw Gen Lee, Gen Ferman, Col Nelson, Gen Washington all in the army. That he has no discharge or docementary evidence that he knows of no person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service except the depositon Of John Brunner. Questions profounded to the applicant by the court 1 st Where and in what year were you born Answer I was born in Sommerset County in the State of New Jersey on the 28th day of November 1754 2nd Have you any record of your age and where is it. Answer My age is in my Fathers Bible in Nelson county in the state of Kentucky 3rd Where were you living when called into service, when have you lived since the Revelutionary War amd where do you now Live. Answer When I was called into service I lived in Sussex County New Jersey I have since the revolutionary war lived in the State of Kentucky and live in Grayson Co. Ky 4th How were you called into service were you drafted, did you volunteer or were you a substitute and if a substitute, for Whom Answer I was drafted several times and volunteered for 4 months under Capt. Dunlap and Volunteered 6 months under Capt. Cooper in the Whole served about four years. 5th State the names of some of the regular officiers you were with the troops where you served, such continental and Militia regimates as you can collect and the General Circumstances of your service Answer Gen Lee, Gen Ferman. Gen Washington. Col. Nelson were the regular officiers. I beleive and the Militia officers were Starlinghouse, Col Hunt, Captains Hendley, Hill, Johnston, Beckworth, Guntrymum, Logan, Cooper, Stull, Dunlap. 6th Did you ever receive a discharge from service and if so by whomwas it given and what has become of it. Answer I never received a regular discharge 7th State the names of persons to whom you are know in your present neighborhood and who can testify as to your Character for _____city and then beleivf of your services as a solider of the Revolution. Answer James Burtle, Uriah Purtle, John Bruner, Peter Bruner, Reed Mc Grew John P. Beatty, Owen Millis William Beatty, Jacob Artman, William Ewing He hearby relinquishes ever claim whatever to a pension or amnuity except the present and declares that his name in not on the pension roll of the agency of any State Sworn to and subscribed the day and year first foresaid John Fulkerson (his signature) We Charles Stuteville Clergyman residing in Grayson County and Charles Wortham residing in the same herby certify that we are well acquantied with John Fulkerson who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration that we beleive him to be seventy seven years of age and that he is reputed and beleived in the neiborhood where he resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution and that we concur in that opion Sworn and Subscribed the day and yearaforesaid Char. H. Stuteville (their Charles Wortham signatures) I Jack Thomas Clerk of the court of Grayson County in the state of Kentucky do hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original proceeding of the said court in the matter of the application of John Fulkerson for pension.
