J. GRAHAM, M. D., was born January 6, 1840, and is a son of Robert and Elizabeth (Young) Graham, to whom three sons and two daughters were born. Robert Graham was a native of Green County, Ky., born in October, 1804; was a millwright, also a farmer, and died in March, 1868. His wife was born June 14, 1813, and died in July, 1883. Dr. Graham was also born in Green County. At twelve years of age he was sent to New Albany, Ind., to receive his education and learn a trade; spent four years in school, then returned to his native county of Green, and remained on the farm till September, 1861, when he enlisted in Company H, Thirteenth Kentucky Volunteers, was made orderly of his company and was mustered in as first lieutenant. He was in the battle of Shiloh and Bragg's rain through Kentucky, but on account of ill health resigned in July, 1863; after his return home commenced the study of medicine with Dr. T. P. Hodges; graduated from the medical department of the University of Louisville in 1866 and located in the western part of Green County, where he has had an extensive and lucrative practice. He is president of the Green River Medical Association, which position he has filled three years in succession. He located where he now resides in November, 1885, on 250 acres, which is well improved, and embellished with a substantial frame residence. He was first married in August, 1865, to Elizabeth, a daughter of Stewart and Elizabeth (Jones) Sutherland. In February, 1868, he married his second wife, Nancy Bale, a daughter of John and Dimmie (Lewis) Bale. From this marriage sprang six children: John R., Edward Y., James H., Rutha C., Alberta and William M. The Doctor's wife is a member of the Baptist Church. The Doctor is a leading and influential member of the Masonic fraternity and also of the I.O.O.F. He is one of the members of the board of examining surgeons, and is politics is an active and uncompromising Republican. Additional Comments: I have no connection and no further information.
