THOMAS P. HODGES (deceased) was a native of Kentucky, and was one of the intelligent and substantial citizens of Green County. His parents came from Virginia in the early settlement of the state. He was a graduate from one of the medical institution of Louisville and commenced practice in 1855, which was extensive and successful till his death. In July, 1856, he was united in marriage to Catharine Carter, a daughter of James T. and Ann (Ramsey) Carter, who were natives of Virginia, and came to Kentucky when children, and settled in Hart and Jefferson Counties respectively. James T. Carter was a farmer and was a patriot and soldier of 1812 under Gen. Harrison. His final location was in Green County, where he became one of its solid and substantial farmers, and served as sheriff of the county several years. He was a son of Daniel Carter, a farmer. Dr. Hodges' final location was on 400 acres five miles northwest of Greensburg, where his family now reside. He reared but two children: James C. and Mattie (now Hobson). The Doctor died in 1872, age forty-four. He was a devoted and leading member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and a member of the Masonic fraternity, and was a man who commanded the respect of all who knew him. His son, James C. Hodges, was born in September, 1861; is well educated, and has the care of the family and homestead.
