Will Book 3, pgs. 58-61 I John Chandler of the state of Kentucky and the County of Green being advanced in age and calling to mind the mortality of my body but of sound mind and desposing memory.  Do make, Constitute and ordain this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and disannulling all wills by me hereunto made. And first of all at my decease I Command my soul to God and my body to the Earth, to be decently buried by my surviving Children. And as to my worldly substance with which God has blessed me.  it is my will that it be disposed of as follows. Item 1st It is my will that first of all my just debts if any and all legal Charges be paid. Item 2nd It is my will; that my estate remaining, after the payment of all debts and charges as aforesaid, shall be equally divided, amongst my children, Viz: Sally Croder(sic), Horatio Chandler, Darky Sanders, Catharine Chandler, Fanny Faucett, Lucinda Wright, and Elizabeth Bottom. Item 3 It is my will, that any sum or sums, that any and all my children are herein Charged with, shall be added to my estate, and shall be considered as a part of his or her portion, and that no account is to be taken, of sum or article of property, of any kind, not herein mentioned. Item 4th to my Daughter Sally Crowder I have give the sum of $104.46 which I paid in cash, to purchase her husbands property, sold at constables sales and let him keep it. also I gave said Crowder 120 acres of land which he by my consent sold to Donany (sic) Poor for which I charge him $400.00, which together makes $504.46 the ballance which may be coming to her will by(?) to be in money, except some arrangement can be made between my Executor herein after appointed and said Sally Crowder, or her heirs to take property for any part of what may be coming to here against which, if mutually aggreed to.  I have no objection. Item 5th To my son Horatio Chandler I give and bequeath all that part of the tract of land on which I live lying northwestwardly of the great road passing by William Shreves and on to Greensburgh (sic) also to include so much, Eastwardly of said road as will straighten the line, but not to interfere Darky Sander Cleared land at seven Dollars per acres with all & Singular it appurtenances. Item 6th To my Daughter Darky Sanders. I give and bequeath the sum of Fifty dollars, cash, which Chiefly I paid for her deceased husband in his lifetime, also all the tract of land on which I live lying Southeastwardly of the great Road except 22 acres laid off for Fanny Fawcett by John Willian, and what is herein above left to Horatio Chandler, with all its appurtenances at six Dollars per acres, also 36 acres adjoining which I bought of John B. Chandler, which she is to have at three Dollars per acre with all its appurtenances. Item 7th To my Daughter Catherine Chandler I give and bequeath 143 acres and 56 poles of the tract of land which I bought of Gideon Man as laid of by John William, it being the part on which the dwelling house stands for which she is to be charged 3 1/2 dollars per acre for said Land and its appurtenances -- I also give her Forty Dollars. Item 8th To my Daughter Fanny Faucett I give and bequeath 22 acres of Land more or less on the North East Corner of the tract of land on which I live and Eastwardly of the great Road beginning at a corner of mine, a beech poplar and White Oak thence N 30 W 45 poles to a dogwood and Maple. Thence S 32 W 108 poles to a hickory Corner thence S 45 E 20 poles to a whiteoak and polpar in a small branch thence N 43 E to the beginning with its appurtenances at six Dollars per acre also I give and bequeath to her 126 3/4 acres of the tract of land which I purchased of Gideon Man as laid off by John William it lying on the upper part of the whole tract at 3 1/2 dollars per acres with its appurtenances. Item 9th To my Daughter Lucinda Wright I give and bequeath as a part of her portion the debt her husband Sampson Wright owes me for a man I sold him and for money paid for him amounting together to $139.33 also the tract of land on which she and her family live containing 160 acres more or less with all its appurtenances at three Dollars & fifty cents per acre amounting together to $699.33 Item 10th To my Daughter Elizabeth Bottom I give and bequeath as a part of her portion the debt her husband Abner Bottom owes me for money paid for him and for a bay mare and colt I sold him at $50.00 amounting together to $134.22 also I give and bequeath to her $540.00 the amount of two notes on Carter Mardis which her husband Abner Bottom has received of me they the said notes having been given by said Mardis for my tract of land on which said Abner lived amounting in the whole to $674.22 for which amount I hold said Abners written acknowledgement bearing date March the 7th 1839 Item 11th It is my will and desire that as early as may be after my decease that each of my children who may reside in Kentucky and who now reside in Kentucky shall have one of the following named Slaves, if they or any of them shall choose to take one at the following prices to wit, Jim at $500.00 Temperance at $400.00 Mariah at $400.00 Cyntha at $400.00 and Darthana, Moriah's daughter at $400.00 the eldest child now living taking first choice, and so on until each gets one provided that each give to my Executor herein after named, bond with approved security for the amount of said slave payable in twelve months on settlement.  Should any one or more of the above named slaves not be taken at the above named prices, as above contemplated, such slave or slaves together  with Eliza Jane, Martha, Thomas Jefferson and any further increase of slaves, shall forth with be sold at public sale on a credit of 12 months, but among my children only the purchaser giving to my Executor bond with approved security Item It is my will that as soon as may be after my decease that the whole of the balance of my estate not above disposed of, of every discription be sold at 12 months credit, the purchaser giving bond and approved security and the proceeds after the payment of all just debts and legal charges be disposed of so that all my children shall have an equal portion of my estate each buy accountable for all the sums of money and parcels of land as stated herein in the different Items against them or as bequeathed to them. Item 13th Finally I do hereby appoint Constitute and ordain my son Horatio Chandler sole Executor of this my last will and testament.   In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my seal and set my hand this 18th day of March 1840. Durham Codicil Whereas on the 18th day of March in the year 1840 I executed my last will I am satisfied except the changes contained in this codicil -- Through the mercy of God being still of disposing mind and memory.  I will and desire that said will be sd for changed as to charge my son Horatio Chandler only five dollars pr acre instead of seven for the Land which I have willed him.   Also it is my will & desire that the Horse mill & all its apparates be considered as giving with the land willed to sd Horatio and included in at appurtenances.  In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my seal and set my hand this 26th day of June 1843 Teste J. Durham         At a County Court held for Green County on the 18 December 1843 the foregoing instrument of writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John Chandler Decd. together with the codicil thereto annexed was produced into Court and proven by the oaths of Joel C. Durham and Samuel M. Durham the subscribing witnesses thereto; to have been signed sealed and acknowledged by the said John Chandler to be his last will and Testament and at the time of doing the same they believed him to be of disposing mind and memory and the same was established and ordered to be recorded.  Whereupon the said will with the Codicil thereto annexed, together with this certificate is truly recorded in my office.
