Signed James BROWN Mary (X) BROWN Wits: Matthew TURNER, James HORNBACK, Peter FRAKES Recorded Hardin County Court 9 Nov 1803 I believe Patrick BROWN was referred to by the locals as "Capt. BROWN" - I can't recall where I have read this (perhaps the History of Elizabethtown). He is listed with the earliest settlers on Nolin Creek on tax lists. Some of his closest neighbors would have been Zephaniah and Peter BELL, John HALL, Jonathan and Michael PAUL (his inlaws) , Coonrad WALTERS and Coonrad KESTER. the GREENWALT family. Patrick BROWN married Elizabeth PAUL 13 April 1790 in (then) Nelson Co. I don't have a bond but they were married by Josiah DODGE who was a Baptist who married the biggest share of couples on early Nolin Creek. Most of these families had been in the same areas before they got to Kentucky and the men had served in militias together; often having served under George Rogers Clark in the Revolution. The 1800 census for Hardin Co. lists Patrick, James and Jonathan BROWN. On the 1810 I see William, Lewis, Frederick, James, Shadrack, another William, another James and Patrick BROWN Patrick and his wife are listed as being 45 or over on the 1810
