Witnesseth that Benjamin HELM Clerk of our Hardin County court by and with the Consent of Christopher MILLER, Samuel MARTIN, George HELM, Aaron F/TERRY & Richard WALKER Gentlemen Justices of the peace in and for the County...aforesaid now Sitting and whose names are hereto Subscribed hath put and placed and by these presents doth put an place MATILDA MERRIFIELD a poor child of the County aforesaid to Hardin THOMAS and with him to dwell and serve from the day of the date of these presents until the said Apprentice Shall accomplish her full age of 16 years according to the laws in that Case made and provided devising all which Town the said Apprentice her said Master faithfully shall serve in all lawfull business according to her power Wit and Ability, honesty orderly and obediently in all things an between herself to her Master devising the said Term And the said Hardin THOMAS doth for himself his heirs and assigns Covenant and agree to and with the said Benjamin HELM and his successors in office by these presents that the said THOMAS will teach the said apprentice the art and mystery of Sewing and Spinning which he now useth, and Shall and will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed in the best way and manner he can and Shall and will during all the lien aforesaid find and provide and allow unto the said aprentice sufficient meet dring and apparel lodging washing and other things fit for an apprentice, Shall and will teach or cause to be taught the said Apprentice reading writing and common Arithmetic including the rule of three and shall and will provide for the said aprentice so that she be not a charge to the County during the said Term and at the end thereof, Shall and will pay unto the said apprentice three pounds and Ten Shillings current money and also allow provide make and deliver unto the said Apprentice double apparel of all Sorts one new suit thereof to be decent and new.
