CHURCHILL, and Richard Walker Gentlemen Justices of the peace in and for the County aforesaid now sitting and whose names are hereto subscribed hath put and placed and by these presents doth put and place JOHN PARKIN MERRIFIELD a poor Child of the County aforesaid to Jacob VERTREISS and with himto dwell and to serve from this ? of the date of these presents make the said Apprentice shall accomplish his full age of 21 years according to the laws in that case made and provided during all ??--ch Term the said Apprentice he said Master faithfully shall serve in lawfull business according to his power wit and ability honestly orderly and obediently in all things and behave himself to his said Master during the said Term and the said Jacob Vertreese doth for himself his heirs and assigns covenant and agree to and with the said Samuel HAYCRAFT and his successors in office by these pesents that the said Jacob VERTREESE will teach the said Apprentice the Art and Mystery of Farming and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed in the best way and Manner he can and shall and will during all the term aforesaid ? provide and allow unto the Apprentice sufficient Meet drink and apparel lodging washing and other things necessary and fit for an Apprentice and shall and will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said Apprentice so that he not a charge to the County during the said Term and that the ? end thereof shall and will pay unto the said Apprentice three pounds and Ten shillings, current money and shall provide make and deliver unto the said Apprentice and aparrels of all sorts one suit Whereof to be decent and new. p 152: In Testimony whereof the parties of this Indenture have hereunto set their hand and affixed their seals the day and year first written.
