For many years he was connected with the tobacco industry at Weston, both as a grower and booster for the Missouri market. Born in Hardin County, Kentucky, April 11, 1862, he was the son of Ruben and Lucinda McDonald Doran and came to Weston in 1884. Two years after he encouraged the late B.J. Bless and J. Rumpel to build the first tobacco sales warehouse in 1908 on the site of the Weston Elevator, he saw the possibilities and promoted the first auction warehouse on Main Street and became president and general manager of the first loose leaf warehouse west of the Mississippi River. In 1916 a deal was closed where he became lessee of the two warehouses here and two in Dearborn. He has resided in Leavenworth since 1925. In 1885 he married at Weston to Miss Jessie Brill who died in 1913. On October 29, 1914 he was married to Miss Alice Byers of Excelsior Springs. Survivors are his wife of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Irene Dailey, Kirksville, Mrs. Faye Blockberger and Mrs. Mary Louise Schwinn, Leavenworth; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
