Thomas SEWALL resigns as Constable, Benjamin SEWALL appointed constable for the town district, bond of $2,000. with Thomas SEWALL and Balas SHUMATE as securities; Oath administered. On motion of James WEBB, he with John & Able PENNINGTON, Henry BACK, and James PENNINGTON are appointed to view and cut out the nearest and best way for a road from James WEBB's place to intersect the road leading up the Poor Fork. Micajeh NAPIER renewed his bond for a Tavern License. Henry SHACKLEFORD ordered to take charge of and maintain Berry SHAKELFORD, a pauper, until further order of the Court. On the motion of Thornton LANDSDOWN, John JONES, a pauper of 14 years, be bound to him by the clerk, till he reaches age 21 to learn the art and trade of farming. Ordered that Edmond JONES, an infant pauper of age 8, be bound to Edmund JONES SR. in a like manner. Ordered that Wiley JONES, a pauper of age 6 1/2 years be bound to John HARRIS in a like manner. Boyd LANSDOWN exempted from paying county levy for 1828 & 29. The viewers appointed at last term to view and mark a road from John KEYWOOD's make their report; '"We did meet on the 30th day of April at John CAYWOOD's where it was proposed the said road shall run about 15 miles to commence at Cawood's Still house, to run thru the lands of Jacob BROWNING, George & Smith SPURLOCK, Benjamin HARRIS, John JULIAN, Wm. SPURLOCK, James SPARKS, Moses BALL and William SHORT, all of whom consent." On the motion of William BINGHAM, it is ordered that the execution in favor of Gabriel JACKSON be credited with $2.08 & that Bingham recover of the plaintiff Jackson, his costs in this behalf. On the motion of Elisha GREEN it is ordered that Frederick MIRACLE, Joseph WILDER, James GREEN, Nelson SAYERS, John WILLEFORD & Jolies COX be appointed to view a road from William Green's to intersect the state road near Robert GEORGEs or David HOGANs. JUNE Court Orders Viewer's report on the road from James B. DORTONS to the mouth of Straight Creek..."We did on the 30th day meet at the place where it is proposed that the road is to begin. The road to commence at or near where that old schoolhouse stands at the upper end of Dorton's meadow field, next to where the road now crosses the river, the mouth of Strait creek. The road will cross no mans land but Dorton's. James B. & William DORTON gave their consent, & James NAPIER is appointed overseer, with the men belonging to the gang assigned of Wm. Renfoe. Stephen RICE renewed his bond as Constable; $2000. with Elijah GREEN.Samuel MARKE & Samuel HOWARD, his securities. Littleton MORRIS renewed his bond as Constable, $2000. with Samuel HOWARD & E. GREEN as securities. Robert GEORGE appointed Judge of Yellow Ck. in place of L. NOE, resigned. Wm. BEARD appointed Clerk of Yellow Ck. in place of Steven RICE, resigned. Stephen DANIEL is exempt from poll tax for the year 1829. Benja. HARRIS granted letters of Admin. for the Estate of John HARRIS Sr. deceased. $500. bond with Samuel HOWARD, his security. Wm. LEWIS, Adrian HOWARD, Sam HOWARD, Hiram Jones & John JONES Sr. are appointed to appraise the J. HARRIS Estate. On the motion of James SPARKS, John HARRIS is appointed overseer of the road from John CAYWOOD's to the ford of Martin's Fork at Benja. HARRIS, with the following hands; Smith SPURLOCK, John PACE, John JULIAN, Elisha SPURLOCK, William MIRACLE & William LEE. James SPARKS is also appointed overseer from Harris' to Wm. SHORTS Mill. HARRIS Randolph NOE & Stephen RICE returned their commissioners books to court, Noe making oath that he was engaged in performing the services 25 days & the said Rice also ____days..is allowed $1.00 per day. HOSKINS, deceased, and make report to Court, next term. John LEWIS appointed overseer from the road from Andrew SMITH's to the top of Pine MT. together with Samuel POWELL. "Whereas it is represented to this county court, that the citizens of this county hath subscribed an amount of upwards Two Hundred dollars for the purpose of building a bridge across Straight Creek at or near the mouth. It is therefore ordered that Samuel G. HOGAN, Jas B. DORTON, & Saml' WOOLUM be appointed as commissioners, to let out the building of said bridge, after the following manner; an abutment on each bank of hewn oak timber filled with stone so as to leave a vacancy of not more than 50 ft. between said abutments. And the vacancy to be overlaid with 5 sleepers hewed & made of oak, squaring a foot by 15" and then covered by Oak puncheons 12 feet long & 2 1/2 ft. thick with a mud sill under each." Said commissioners shall advertise the time and place of letting out the building of said bridge 15 days prior to the letting out." Jacob GILLIAM appointed overseer of the road from the first drain above John LEWIS's Mill branch to the mouth of Lunies Creek, together with the hands from Samuel POWELL's to the mouth of Lunies Creek. Samuel WOOLUM appointed overseer of the road on Straight Creek from the forks up to Abraham LOCK's also Ruben HENDERIXSON's from Lock's to the top of the mountain. Joseph BENJAY & Elijah GREEN, Esq.'s, appointed to allot the hands between James BARNETT & Gabriel JACKSON, on the Pucketts Ck. road. Ordered that the hands on Catron's Creek from David FEE's up, be added to David FEE's Precinct road.
