On the 13th day of July 1818 before me, the undersigned, one of the circuit judges for the Commonwealth aforesaid personally appeared Jesse Rose, aged about 68 years, resident in Harrison County in said state, who being by me first duly sworn according to law, doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the Act of Congress entitled an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War. That he enlisted as a private in the State of Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Shelton in the year 1777 or thereabouts. That he was afterward transferred to Capt. Payton's company and continued to serve in that company as a private soldier until some time after the expiration of the term for which he enlisted which was three years. That Capt. Shelton's company and Capt. Payton's company both belonged to the third Virginia Regiment until a short time after the battle of Germantown when they were transferred to the second Virginia Regiment. That both the 2nd and 3rd Virginia Regiments belonged to the Virginia Line on the continental establishment. That he was at the battle of Monmouth and several skirmishes. That from his reduced circumstances in life he stands in need of assistance from the country for support and that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services. Sworn to and declared before me this day and year aforesaid. John Trimble. I, John Trimble, Judge of the Circuit Court for Harrison County in the State of Kentucky, do certify that it appears to my satisfaction that said Jesse Rose did, as a private soldier, serve in the Revolutionary War as stated in the preceeding affidavit against the common enemy for the term of nine months on the continental establishment and I now transmit the evidence and proceedings taken before me to the secretary for the war department pursuant to the directions of this aforementioned Act of Congress, and I do further certify that from his reduced circumstances in life the said Rose stands in need of assistance from his country for support. In temtimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Harrison Circuit Court to be opened the day and year first above written. John Trimble. Transcribed from original.
