Stephen Ledford and Carter Unthank are said to have killed each other in a general fight in Harlan, KY Friday. Ben Cassiday, a native of Ireland but for sixty years a resident of Fleming County, died at Flemingsburg at the age of 103. Miss E. Augusta Robinson, for many years art teacher at Science Hill, Shelbyville, KY, when Mrs. Tevis was principal, was killed at Exeter, NH, Friday by a frightful fall of 30 feet from a window. She was 73 years old. J. A. Violette, former county attorney of Franklin, dropped dead at his office in Frankfort. Chile has lost two presidents by death in two weeks. Loyd W. Bowers, solicitor general of the United States, and a personal friend of President Taft, died in Boston, Friday. Mrs. Callie Hudson Degaris, a bride of three days, was killed by an automobile in front of her parents home, two miles from Lexington, on the Leestown pike, Saturday. She was 20 years old. Mr. Degaris is a young miller in Georgetown. Miss Florence Pardee a daughter of former Gov. Pardee of California, died from injuries received in an automobile accident at Corte Madera, CA. Mr. Thornton Tucker, son-in-law of the late John Fleming, of this vicinity, died at his home in Owen county on the 7th. Died on 9th inst. with dropsey, Mr. R. T. Powell, age 72. Member of Methodist Church 30 years. Survived by wife (nee Morgan) and five children: Orris M. and Miss Jessie Powell and D. C. and Johnson Powell of Coleman, FL. Mrs. Will bush of Browntown, Wisconsin; two sisters; Miss Belle Powell and Mrs. Eva Fluke of Georgetown. Burial in Georgetown Cem. Cynthiana Democrat 15 Sep 1910 Thursday Vol. 62 No. 51 6 Pages Pg. 2 Col. 5 Claysville Martha Adelia, daugher of Mr. & Mrs. William Reid Garrett (nee Elizabeth Agnes Kennon), was born 7 March 1857, married to Hezekiah Mardin, 8 March 1893, died 8 Sep 1910. Survived by husband, one daugher, age 16, Irene: sisters; Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Howard, Pink, OH; Mrs. Lucy Moore, Milford; Brothers; R. C. Garrett, Cynthiana ; Will Garrett near Milford. There are three step-children: Mrs. P:earl Woodward and James Mardis near Milford; Charles Mardis at the home. She was buried at Milford where her parents, a sister and brother that had preceded her are buried. One brother, a Confederate soldier lies in Virginia, the youngest one, so well remembered and loved, rests in Battle Grove in Cynthiana. Mrs. Smiser was formerly Miss Deithe Gossett, of this county. Monday, to Mr. & Mrs. John Lee, a daughter, weight 7 lbs. Mrs. Lee was formerly Miss Anna May Dills. Second heir and son. Monday evening while out driving, Misses Cecil Fryer, Lottie Cummins, Beulah and Velma Fossett were dumped over the north embankment just east of the little iron bridge. The young ladies had a miraculous escape from being injured, but luckily all escaped with slight bruises. Died Oliver Shoemaker, aged 80 years, died at his home near Moscow, OH. The remains were brought back to this county and interment took place in the Flour Crfeek Cem. Mrs. Jane Fornash, aged 65 years, died Saturday, 3 Sept. at the home of her son, Newton Fornash, who resides on the John Coleman Farm. George Smith, aged about 12 years, son of Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Smith, died at his home on the Bradford (Broadford ?) pike.
