Matthew Petty died at Vanceburg Sunday, aged 67. He was a brother of Martin Petty and formerly resided near here. This community was sadly shocked at the death of Stanley Taylor, a bright young man of our neighborhood who was well known and liked by everyone. Pg. 5 Col. 3 DEATHS On last Friday Messrs. Orie and Clarence LeBus received a telegram bringing the sad news of the death of their sister, Dr. Leona LeBus, which occurred at San Francisco, CA Friday, 20 Nov. 1908. She died after an operation at St. Luke's Hospital for adhesive bowels this being he third operation she had undergone. Peritonitis soon set in, and the end came Friday, 20 Nov. 1908. She was the daughter of the late Lewis LeBus, a prominent republican, and a widely known capitalist who amassed a fortune of about a million dollars, having started on his career as a poor school teacher in this county. Miss LeBus was born in this county Nov 10, 1867 and had therefore celebrated her 41st birthday. She attended the schools here and then the college at Oxford, OH. After a four years' course at Wellesley College she graduated with honors at that famous institution. She took a four year course in Johns-Hopkins University and then a two years special course in Europe. Her parents having moved to Los Angeles, CA, some 20 years ago, Dr. LeBus decided to locate in that state and entered her profession in San Francisco, where she became a prominent woman physician. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Martha C. LeBus, two sisters, Miss Bertha LeBus and Mrs. Claud Hollman, of Los Angeles and three brothers, Mr. Prentice LeBus, of Los Angeles, CA, Messrs. Clarence and Orie LeBus of Cynthiana. He father died in Los Angeles several years ago. Funeral and burial occurred in Los Angeles. Mr. & Mrs. Charles Moss, of Robinson, have the sympathy of numerous friends in the death of their bright little son, William, who died of brain fever, last Friday at the age of 6 years. Remains were interred in Pythian Grove. Mrs. Lucetta Jenkins, aged almost 80 years, died of pneumonia at the home of her husband, Thomas Jenkins, near Sylvan Dell, Monday night. She was formerly Miss Lucetta Smith, a sister of James and Silas Smith and was a member of the Methodist church. She is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs. Matthew Kearns, Mrs. J. S. Fryman, Mrs. J. A. Pratt and Mr. J. W. Jenkins. Funeral and burial was at Republican, Wednesday. John Snell passed away last Sunday. He died in hospital in Cincinnati where he had an operation on Friday. Burial was in Battle Grove. His pall bearers were Confederate veterans, W. P. Hedges, Sam O. Eckler, Jas. W. Cromwell, Jas. W. McKee, John W. Dickey, John H. Shawhan. He was born in the southern part of the county on March 27, 1840 and was the son of John and Rebecca Keller Snell. In 1861 he enlisted in Capt. Jo Desha's company in the Confederate army, and served through the war. Soon after the war he married Miss America Kirtley. They located in Kansas but soon returned to this county where he has since engaged in farming, although they removed to Cynthiana about 15 years ago. He is survived by wife, and three daughters, Mrs. John D. Berry, Mrs. Lillie Conner and Miss May Snell. Pg. 6 Col. 4 Oddville Born on the 16th, to the wife of Claud Fowler, a fine boy. Pg. 8 Col. 1 Richland Levi Sandy is improving after a protracted illness. Wm. Sandy returned home after a year's stay in Georgia. Born on Friday to the wife of Harry Asbury, a nine pound daughter. Pg. 8 Col. 2 Curry Stanley Taylor died at the home of his father-in-law Wednesday Nov 17 after an illness of only a few days. He is survived by his wife, nee Humphrey, and one child also one sister.
