Submitted by: Angela Feenerty ***************************************************************** Martin Fitzgerald, San Diego, CA, was born in the Mammoth Cave region of Ky., March 24, 1902, the seventh child of William and Molly Doyel Fitzgerald. William Fitzgerald was born in Sullivan Co., TN on June 30, 1861 to James and Lydia Galloway Fitzgerald and died October 23, 1926 in KY. Molly Doyel was the oldest child of Dr. Sutton Doyel, the son of Samuel and Mary Combs Doyel, and his wife Amanda Alice Tinsley, the daughter of James M. and Lucinda Quiesenbury Nichols. Martin lived his childhood in the Mammoth Cave region of KY where he attended Little Jordan Baptist Church and school. He was an officer in the CCC and later machinest in the Navy. He carried on a long family tradition of metal working in San Diego, CA where he moved in the early 1940's. Martin remained in San Diego until his death April 29, 1967. His body was returned to Hart Co, and is buried in the Munfordville Cemetery, Munfordville, KY. He married first, Edna Louise Brooks on January 11, 1925 in IL. They had one daughter, Marian Frances Fitzgerald born March 15, 1926. Second, he married Thelma Puckett, August 13, 1939, McHenry, IL. By this marriage he had two children, Thomas Martin and Charlotte Jean. Thelma Puckett was born March 06, 1910 in Louisville, Jefferson Co., Ky. She was the daughter of Asbury Clifton Puckett August 3, 1880 - August 4, 1955 Hart Co., KY and Georgie Etta Cosby Puckett November 16, 1884 - April 13, 1960. Asbury was the son of David Crockett and Delilah Hazelip Puckett. Georgie Etta was the daughter of Samuel Harrison and Joannah Dorsey Cosby. Thelma was a member of Carlisle Baptist Church, Louisville KY. She worked for Dunn and Bradstreet in Louisville, KY. Later after returning from San Diego, CA in 1948, was the postmistress for Kessinger, KY where she remained until her death on October 18, 1965.
