RICHARD E. GARNETT was born September 17, 1855, in Barren County, Ky., where he grew up and resided until 1885; he then removed to Hart County, where he now resides; his father, Joseph R. Garnett, was born September 20, 1817, also in Barren County. He bean life as a farmer, and afterward engaged in keeping hotel in Glasgow, Louisville and Richmond, Ky. While in Louisville he was proprietor of the old United States Hotel. Joseph R. was a son of Richard Garnett, who was born in Virginia in 1775, and was the first clerk of the circuit court of his circuit, which office he held until the adoption of the new constitution. He, Richard, was a devoted and earnest member of the Baptist Church, and held the position of chief clerk of all the associations. He was one of the largest land owners of his county, and died in his ninety-eighth year, highly respected, by all who knew him. He, Joseph R., married in June, 1838, Lucinda Clark, and took a weeding trip to Indiana on horseback. To them were born Everard (deceased), Clara (deceased), Lee (deceased), Nellie (Shirley), Reuben (deceased), Katie (deceased), Eugenia (Murray), Richard E., Alice and Theodocia H. Richard E. married June 17, 1880, Mattie, daughter of John M. and Emily (Owens) Wilson, of Hart County. >From this union sprang Lucinda C. and John W. After finishing his >common school education, Richard E. attended for one year \the University of Chicago, and two years at the University of Virginia, and afterward took a medical course at the University of Louisville, from which he graduated in the class of 1880, and immediately commended the practice of his profession at Hardyville. After two years' practice Dr. Garnett removed to Barren County, where he remained two years; he has recently returned to Hardyville, where he has a drug store, to which he attends as well as to his practice; he is a member of the Baptist Church, and in politics a Democrat.
