WILLIAM MARCUM was born January 26, 1820 in Green County, Ky., where he
grew to manhood; in 1858 he removed to Grayson County; in 1873 he
settled in Hart County, and in 1878 he located on the south fork of
Little Barren River, in Metcalfe County, where he has since resided.
His father, John Marcum, a native of Virginia, died in Green County, in
1874, at the age of eighty-four years.  He was the son of Barnett
Marcum, of Virginia, who died in Boone County, Mo.  John Marcum married
Mary, daughter of William and Fannie (Woolridge) Vance, of Green County
(died in 1876, aged eighty-four years), and from their union sprang
Barnett, Fannie (Lisley and Deering), Ruth V. (Webb), William, Margaret
(deceased), Berry B., John, Lurana (Montgomery), George W., James H.,
Daniel F., Lucy J. (Arnett and Bland), Mary T. (deceased), and Dr.
Andrew B.  William Marcum has been twice married; first, to Margaret J.,
daughter of Pleasant and Margaret (Vance) Hudson, of Green County (died
October 3, 1853), and their offspring are Drury H. and John I.  In 1857
he married Hariette McCluer of Hart County, and to them have been born
Elizabeth (Gorin), William D., Mary M., James B., Samuel V., Alexander
D., and Annie M.  Mr. Marcum, in the commencement of his business career
had to rely upon his own exertions, but by industry and strict attention
to business he has secured a competency.  He has following milling since
1856, and now owns a good water-mill on the South Fork of Little Barren
River. He owns 100 acres of land on the bluff of the river.  In politics
he is a Democrat.
