He came to KY prior to 1780 and lived near Cartright's Station. He was captured by a band of Shawnee and taken to Ohio, he escaped after several months in captivity. Philemon returned to Cartwright's Station after spending time at the Falls of Ohio. It was at the Falls of Ohio, in 1782, that he married Elizabeth Harrison who was the daughter of Thomas Harrsion. Due of his capture and time with the Indians, Simon Kenton approached him on behalf of Gen. George Rogers Clark to secure him as a guide for an expedition against the Indians in Ohio along the Miami and Scioto rivers. Philemon was reputed to be friends with Simon Kenton, Daniel Boone, Thomas Denton and other pioneer adventurers of his time. He was a Justice of the Peace and a member of the State Senate for Washington Co. He moved to Barren Co. around 1820 where he died on May 30, 1829. Elizabeth preceded him in death October 10, 1824. They are buried near Cave City in a family cemetery. Their children were Elizabeth, Philemon B., Mary H., Thomas H., Jane, Nancy and Lydia. A cabin built by Philemon in Washington Co. still stands today.
