"A TERRIBLE accident occurred in our adjourning county of Hart on the 6th inst., which resulted in the fatal burning of a child and the severe burning of its mother. Mrs. Chapman who left her little babe in its cradle and had occasion to be absent for a short time, on returning found the cradle on fire and the child so badly burned that it expired in a few minutes. In her desperate efforts to save her child, she seied it, and the fire being some communicated to her clothing she was very severely burned before assistance could be had to extinguish the flames. "It is a melancholy occurence and one that ought to furnish a fearful lesson to others." Glasgow (KY) Weekly Times, 18 Dec 1873.
