The Hart County native was the daughter of the late Jeff and Letha Staggs Polston and the widow of Grover Earl Childress. She was a member of the Camp Ground United Methodist Church. Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Crump and Donna Sweet both of Bonnieville; Lucille Goldsmith of Magnolia, Thelma Sizemore of Louisville and Earlyne Lamb of Smith's Grove; four sons, Dewey Childress of Upton, James Childress of Hopkinsville, Paul Childress of Bonnieville and Virgil Stanley Childress of Mundfordville; five sisters, Mitchell Butler of Magnolia, Ola Compton of Bonnieville, Betty Beeler of Hodgenville, Charlotte Philpott of Horse Cave and Cora Pulliam of Elizabethtown; 49 grandchildren, 56 great- grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11:00a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with the Rev. Howard Srygler officiating. Burial was in the Concord Cemetery.
