Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow. The Northtown native was a homemaker and a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Clara Lothery Philpott. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Philpott. Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Hayes, Horse Cave; four daughters, Shirley Lothery and Carol Ballard of Horse Cave; Clara Cross of Hiseville; and Betty Jean Hurt, Munfordville; four sons, Robert E. Hayes, Wayne Hayes, and Douglas L. Hayes all of Horse Cave, and Ernest N. Hayes, Cave City; 23 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Russell, Horse Cave; two half- sisters, Rosie Matthews, Bonnieville, and Maggie Hornback, Glendale. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 1998 at Cave Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Leon Larimore officiating. Burial was in the Hiseville Cemetery.
