She was a native of Hart County and a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Robert Cleveland and Birdie Reynolds Puckett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Staples; two sons, Robert "Toots" Staples and Howard Gene Staples; two brothers, Hillard Puckett and Clifford Puckett and, a sister, Thelma Logsdon. Survivors include two daughters, Violet Hazelwood and Charlene Long both of Upton; four sons, Damon Staples, Hodgenville; Roger Staples, Magnolia; Monty Staples and Kenneth Staples, both of Upton; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 15 great- great-grandchildren; three step- grandchildren and seven step- great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home in Munfordville with the Rev. Billy McCrady and John McDowell officiating. Burial was in the Wilkerson Temple Cemetery.
