He was drafted into service in Newberg County, South Carolina, under Major Gillam. He served in the battle of Stone Ferry. He was with Colonel Williams in an attack on Tories. He was again with Colonel James Williams in an attack on Tories. In 1779 he served in General Andrew Williamson's Cherokee Campaign.
